BILL DEVINE leads the RiskRecognition21c Practice, where his work on legal and regulatory hurdles helps a client implement a more profitable business model and a greater contribution to society.

 

He advises enterprises on legal risks and opportunities they will encounter in both existing markets and new markets. 

 

He is General Counsel for Institute for Social + Emotional Learning.  He advises the enterprise on all legal, financial, HR and operational matters.  He is co-author of the business plan.

 

Bill worked as co-counsel on corporate matters with White Summers.  He was Of Counsel at Miller Starr Regalia, where he assisted in establishing the firm's Silicon Valley office.  His expertise includes dispute resolution matters.

 

He spent a decade working in the commerical property development and brokerage industries. He also launched the California Real Estate Clinic, a start-up that offered an alternative to standard property brokerage services. 

 

Bill's articles and op-ed pieces have appeared in Los Angeles Times, California Lawyer, Inside HigherEd, San Francisco Chronicle, Corporate Governance eJournal, and University of Houston Institute for Higher Ed Law and Governance Monograph Series.

 

He wrote Women, Men & Money (Random House, 1998), and The Cost of a College Touchdown:  A Story of Trustee Miscalculation (Smashwords, 2014). 

 

Bill is Adjunct Professor of Management at Menlo College, where his class explores legal, economic and societal issues in sports management. 

 

He holds a B.A. from Dartmouth College, where he studied Shakespeare, Marlowe and economics, and a J.D. from Boston University School of Law. He is a member of the California Bar Association, and once coached a season of college basketball.
